John Wiswell wins the Nebula Award for best novel

Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell won the Nebula for best novel at the 60th Nebula Awards in Kansas City.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association presented its 60th Nebula Awards on 7 June 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. The award for best novel went to John Wiswell's Someone You Can Build a Nest In, published by DAW in the US and Arcadia in the UK. It was the author's first novel.

The novella award went to A.D. Sui's The Dragonfly Gambit, from the small press Neon Hemlock. Both the novelette and short story winners first appeared in Clarkesworld: "Negative Scholarship on the Fifth State of Being" by A.W. Prihandita, and "Why Don't We Just Kill the Kid in the Omelas Hole" by Isabel J. Kim. The Andre Norton Award for young adult fiction went to Vanessa Ricci-Thode's The Young Necromancer's Guide to Ghosts.

The Nebulas are voted on by SFWA's members, so they reflect what working writers in the genre rated from the previous year's publications.

A debut winning the principal category of a peer-voted award is worth noting. The shorter-fiction results also show how much weight a single online magazine now carries: two of the four prose fiction categories went to stories from one publication.
