Green Libraries Week 2025 focuses on climate action
CILIP's Green Libraries Week ran from 27 October to 2 November 2025 across the UK, under the theme Seeds of Change.
Green Libraries Week 2025, led by CILIP, the library and information association, ran from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November. The theme was Seeds of Change: Make a Difference with Your Library.
The campaign, in its third year, covers public, academic, health and specialist libraries in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It opened with the Green Libraries Conference at the British Library Knowledge Centre in London on 27 October. CILIP said the Green Libraries Network had grown to more than 290 members, and that its Green Libraries Manifesto was backed by nearly 250 organisations. ASCEL, the association of children's library services, and Blackpool Libraries joined as partners.
Libraries were encouraged to run activities on climate and sustainability during the week, supported by a self-assessment tool, climate literacy training and campaign toolkits.
Libraries are among the few public places where anyone can find information and a book without paying. Campaigns like this one use that position to reach people on a subject that is often discussed in ways that exclude them. For writers, and particularly for authors of non-fiction and children's books on the environment, libraries remain one of the most direct routes to readers.
