World Book Night is run by The Reading Agency, a UK reading charity, and takes place every year on 23 April, the date UNESCO marks as World Book and Copyright Day. It is aimed particularly at adults and young people who do not often read for pleasure.

The 2025 edition took place on Wednesday 23 April. It was linked to the year's Quick Reads, short books by six authors including Leila Aboulela, Cathy Bramley and Abir Mukherjee, sold for £1 in bookshops and free to borrow from libraries. Thousands of copies were given out through public libraries to community groups such as food banks, shelters, prisons and workplaces.

Anyone can take part in the Reading Hour, from 7pm to 8pm, by setting time aside to read alone, with a book club or with children. Organisations and individuals also hold their own events, from book swaps to readings.
