World Book Day 2025
The UK and Ireland's annual children's reading day, with £1/€1.50 book tokens exchangeable for a free book from a specially published list.

World Book Day is run by the World Book Day charity, sponsored by National Book Tokens, and aims to give every child the chance to own a book of their own. In the UK and Ireland it falls on the first Thursday in March, so that as many children as possible are in school to take part.
For 2025 the day was Thursday 6 March. Children received a £1/€1.50 token, usually through school, which could be exchanged between 13 February and 23 March 2025 for one of 12 specially published titles across the UK, two exclusive books for Ireland and one Welsh-language title, or used as money off another book.
Bookshops and libraries take part by stocking the titles and redeeming tokens, and many run author visits and story sessions around the day. Accessible editions in braille, large print and audio are also offered.
