The Women's Prize for Fiction is awarded each year to a novel written in English by a woman and published in the UK. The 2025 winners were announced on 12 June at a ceremony in Bedford Square Gardens in central London, hosted by the prize's founder director, Kate Mosse.
The fiction prize, judged by a panel chaired by Kit de Waal, went to The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden, a debut novel about repressed desire and historical amnesia, set in the Netherlands after the Second World War. The winner receives £30,000 and a bronze statuette known as the Bessie.
The same evening, the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction was awarded to Rachel Clarke for The Story of a Heart, an account of organ donation and the people it affects.
