Wigtown Book Festival is held each autumn in Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town, in Dumfries and Galloway. It is run by the Wigtown Festival Company, a charity that also organises literary events through the year.
The 2026 festival runs from 25 September to 4 October, with more than 200 events in the main programme and a separate programme for children and families. Events take place in venues around the town, and the full programme is available as a downloadable PDF.
It suits readers who want a long weekend or more in a town built around bookshops, families, and writers and small publishers who value a festival with a local, independent character.
