The Sharjah International Book Fair is organised by the Sharjah Book Authority and is one of the largest public book fairs in the world. The 43rd edition ran for twelve days, with Morocco as Guest of Honour.
The fair is preceded by the Sharjah Publishers Conference, a professional programme of rights meetings and seminars for publishers and agents. The fair itself mixes publishers' stands with author talks, children's events and awards, including prizes for translation. Publishing Perspectives reported around 2,500 exhibitors and an organiser figure of 1.82 million visitors.
It is most useful for publishers and rights people interested in Arabic-language markets and translation. Readers in the region attend in large numbers, and small publishers can use the conference to meet partners across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
