Each October the Swedish Academy announces the Nobel Prize in Literature in Stockholm, with the announcement streamed live on the Nobel Prize's official channels. The 2024 prize was announced on 10 October.
The laureate was the South Korean author Han Kang, recognised for intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life. Her novels available in English include The Vegetarian, Human Acts and The White Book.
Unlike most prizes on this page, the Nobel honours a body of work rather than a single book, and there is no public shortlist. The announcement is followed by the formal award ceremony in Stockholm in December.
