The 2026 International Booker Prize, supported by Bukhman Philanthropies, was announced at a ceremony at Tate Modern in London on 19 May 2026. The prize is awarded to a work of fiction translated into English, and the prize money is shared equally between author and translator.
The judges, chaired by the novelist Natasha Brown, chose Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, translated by Lin King. Presented as a fictional translation of a rediscovered Japanese travel memoir, the novel follows two women on a culinary tour of Japanese-ruled Taiwan in the 1930s, and considers history, power, class, colonialism and love. It is the first book translated from Taiwanese Mandarin to win the prize.
The other judges were Marcus du Sautoy, Sophie Hughes, Troy Onyango and Nilanjana S. Roy. The full longlist and shortlist are archived on the Booker Prizes website.
Organised by Booker Prize Foundation. Tingle Press lists it as an event worth your time and is not the organiser. Check the organiser's website for final details.
