Independent Bookshop Week is run by the Booksellers Association as part of its Books Are My Bag campaign. Launched in 2006, it celebrates the role independent bookshops play in their communities, with nearly 800 shops across the UK and Ireland taking part in recent years.
The Booksellers Association has announced that the 2027 edition will run from Saturday 12 June to Saturday 19 June. Past editions have included the High Five for Bookshops gift card offer, guest bookselling by authors, a Big Book Club held in shops on the Wednesday, and the Indie Book Awards, whose shortlists are chosen by independent booksellers.
Readers can take part by shopping locally, planning a bookshop crawl and sharing their purchases with #IndieBookshopWeek. Independent publishers can look out for opportunities to partner with bookshops on local activity during the week.
