Hay Festival Winter Weekend is Hay Festival's late-November event in Hay-on-Wye, held in the grounds of Hay Castle. It runs alongside the town's start to the Christmas season.
The 2025 edition ran from 26 to 30 November with more than 80 participants. The programme covered new novels and poetry, politics and technology, science, philosophy and history, alongside comedy, music, nature walks and candle-lit storytelling. A free schools programme was offered to Welsh primary pupils, the Christmas lights were switched on on 28 November, and selected events were available through an online pass.
It suits readers who prefer a compact programme over a few days, and visitors who want to pair talks with browsing Hay's bookshops.
