The Hackney Indie Press Fair is a free one-day event from the organisers of the Alternative Book Fair, held at the Meeting House on Newington Green on Saturday 24 October 2026 from 10am to 5pm. Run with support from Arts Council England, it brings together around 30 independent publishers of fiction, poetry and non-fiction.
Stallholders include Galley Beggar, Weather Glass Books, Renard Press, Fly on the Wall, Jacaranda Books, Istros Books, Heloise Press and époque press, among others. Talks through the day, marking the National Year of Reading, focus on translated writing, with Peirene Press's James Tookey and the translators Nicky Harman and Ros Schwartz, chaired by Sarah Parfitt. A publishers' panel follows at 4.30pm.
The fair is designed for readers and for aspiring writers who want to meet the people behind the books and learn how independent publishing works.
