The Guadalajara International Book Fair, known as FIL Guadalajara, is the largest meeting of the Spanish-language publishing world. It is run by the University of Guadalajara and held at Expo Guadalajara. The 2024 fair was the 38th, with Spain as Guest of Honour.
Over nine days it combines a large public festival of author events, readings and a children's programme with a professional side, including a rights centre where publishers and agents meet. The fair reported 907,300 visitors, 2,769 publishing imprints from 64 countries, 18,100 book professionals and 162 literary agents.
It is the key event for anyone publishing in or into Spanish, and for rights people selling translation rights to Latin American and Spanish publishers. Readers in Mexico attend in very large numbers.
