Bokmässan, the Gothenburg Book Fair, is the Nordic region's largest cultural event and is run as part of the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre Group. The 2026 fair had Québec as Guest of Honour and popular adult education and games as its themes.
The organiser reported 106,578 visits, 811 exhibitors and more than 4,000 programme items across 34 stages. Jamaica Kincaid received the fair's literary prize, the Mermaid Award. Alongside the public programme, the International Rights Centre gives publishers and agents a place to trade rights in Nordic and international titles.
It is a good event for readers and for anyone interested in Scandinavian publishing. Rights people and small publishers can use the rights centre to meet Nordic partners, and writers will find a large programme of talks on the craft and business of books.
