Bokmässan, the Gothenburg Book Fair, is the largest book event in the Nordic countries, held each September at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre and run as part of that venue's group. The 2025 fair was the 41st, with love and lust and drama among its themes.
It mixes a large public programme of seminars, stage events and signings with a trade side, including an International Rights Centre where Nordic and international publishers and agents meet. Its literary prize, the Mermaid Award, went to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in 2025.
It suits readers who enjoy a festival atmosphere, and rights people with an interest in Scandinavian writing, which travels widely in translation. For small publishers it is a good way to meet Nordic partners in one place.
