Frankfurter Buchmesse returns to Messe Frankfurt from 7 to 11 October 2026. Czechia is the Guest of Honour, taking over from the Philippines, who held the role in 2025.
Frankfurt is the largest international trade fair for books. Its core is rights trading: publishers, agents and scouts meet over five days to license translations and adaptations, supported by dedicated rights centres. Around this sit conferences on the state of the industry, author events and exhibitions, and the final days are open to the public.
It is the event to plan around if you sell or buy rights internationally, and a useful one for small publishers who want to see how the global trade works. Writers can follow the professional programme for a sense of what editors and agents are looking for, and readers can visit on the public days.
