The 77th Frankfurter Buchmesse took place at Messe Frankfurt, with the Philippines as Guest of Honour under the motto “The imagination peoples the air”. It is the largest international trade fair for books, and the main autumn meeting point for the rights business.
Publishers, agents and scouts spend the week in back-to-back meetings selling and buying translation and film rights, while stages across the halls host author talks and industry sessions, including a Book-to-Screen Day on adaptation. The organiser reported around 4,350 exhibitors and 238,000 visitors from 131 countries, 118,000 of them trade visitors.
The fair is most useful for rights teams, literary agents and publishers looking to license titles abroad or acquire translations. Writers and small publishers can learn a great deal from the professional programme, and readers can attend on the public days at the end of the week.
Organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse. Tingle Press lists it as an event worth your time and is not the organiser. Check the organiser's website for final details.
