Frankfurter Buchmesse 2024

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the largest international trade fair for the book business, held each October at Messe Frankfurt. The 2024 edition was the 76th, and Italy was the Guest of Honour.

Most of the business happens in rights meetings: publishers, literary agents and scouts sell and buy translation and adaptation rights, much of it in the Literary Agents & Scouts Centre and the Publishers Rights Centre, both of which the organiser reported as fully booked. Alongside the halls runs a programme of talks, author events and industry conferences, and the closing days are open to the public. The organiser reported more than 4,300 exhibitors and 230,000 visitors, split evenly between trade and private visitors.

It is most useful for rights staff, agents and publishers with a list to sell abroad. For a small publisher it is a good place to understand how international rights are traded, even without a stand, and readers can visit on the public days.
