The Festival du Livre de Paris is the successor to the Salon du Livre, first held at the Grand Palais in 1981. It is organised by Paris Livres Événements, a subsidiary of the French publishers' association, the Syndicat national de l'édition. The fourth edition marked its return to the Grand Palais, with Morocco as guest of honour.
It is a public book festival on a large scale, with publishers exhibiting alongside author talks and signings. The organiser reported 11 stages, 500 authors taking part in 330 events, 1,200 authors signing and 114,000 visitors, with strands on the sea, literature on screen and live performance.
It is aimed mainly at readers, and at French-language publishing. For writers and small publishers outside France it is a useful way to see how a national trade presents itself to the public.
