The English Print Revolution: Caxton and Beyond was a free exhibition at Senate House Library, open from 26 February 2026 and extended until 23 July 2026. It marked 550 years since William Caxton, having learned to print in Cologne and Bruges, brought the technique to England in 1476.

Visitors could see early books printed by Caxton, the literary context from which his Westminster shop emerged, and the printers who followed him in fifteenth-century England. The display also traced how print spread news and knowledge, what later printers learned that Caxton had not, and how he came to be venerated as the father of English printing. It was curated by Karen Attar and Michael Durrant.

The exhibition was accompanied by guided tours and a one-day event on print then and now, and will interest anyone who cares about how the printed book, and a standardised written English, came into being.
