The Edinburgh International Book Festival is an Edinburgh charity that has presented an August festival of books and ideas for more than four decades. It is held at the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
The 2026 festival ran from 15 to 30 August, with almost 600 writers from 41 countries taking part in 600 events across fiction, politics, science, history, music and live performance. The theme, Changing Your Mind, set out to make room for considered discussion on divisive subjects. The programme also included a Young Adults strand, more than 150 events for children and families, a schools programme, livestreamed and pay-what-you-can events, and a daytime broadcast hub with the BBC.
It suits readers who want to combine books with the wider Edinburgh festivals, and writers and publishers interested in international fiction and non-fiction.
