The Edinburgh International Book Festival is a charity that has run an August festival in the city for more than forty years. Since 2024 it has been based at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh.
The 2025 festival ran from 9 to 24 August with close to 700 events and 641 writers from 35 countries, under the theme of Repair. Strands covered fiction, non-fiction, current affairs, poetry and performance, and workshops, with a new Young Adults programme, more than 100 children's events and many free drop-in sessions. More than 100 events were livestreamed, and reduced prices were offered to under-30s and people on low incomes.
It suits readers visiting Edinburgh in August, writers interested in international publishing, and anyone who wants a large programme within one compact site.
