The Carmen Talks are Virago's lecture series in honour of its founder, the publisher Carmen Callil. The third lecture, Getting the Good Stuff Out There, is given by the novelist, memoirist and publisher Kit de Waal at The London Library on 30 September 2026, with the talk running from 7pm to 8pm.

De Waal draws on her background in social services and criminal law to reflect on her activism as a writer, publisher and reader, and on inclusion in publishing. Her work includes novels, memoir and anthologies, and she has been involved in initiatives such as BookBanks and the Black Writers Guild.

Tickets start at £8. The event is part of the Library's programme with Hakluyt & Company, and books are available through Hatchards. It is likely to interest anyone working in, or trying to get into, independent publishing.
