The 2026 British Book Awards took place on Monday 11 May at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London, hosted by the journalist Steph McGovern and streamed online. The Bookseller runs the awards, which cover books of the year alongside awards for publishers, agents and booksellers.
The overall Book of the Year was Nobody's Girl, the posthumous memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, written with Amy Wallace and published by Doubleday. The 2026 awards also introduced new Graphic Novel, Romantic Fiction and Science Fiction and Fantasy categories. The first Science Fiction and Fantasy prize went to Alchemised by SenLinYu, from Penguin Michael Joseph.
The new category gives genre fiction its own place at the main UK trade awards, which is worth noting for authors and publishers working in speculative fiction.
