Bookshop Day is an annual one-day celebration of high street bookshops, run by the Booksellers Association through its Books Are My Bag campaign. It is held on the second Saturday in October and involves around 1,000 retailers, both independents and chain branches.
The 2024 edition took place on Saturday 12 October. The artist and printmaker Angela Harding designed that year's limited-edition Books Are My Bag tote, which went on sale in bookshops from Bookshop Day itself. Shops marked the day with signings, readings, children's sessions and offers.
Readers can take part by visiting a local bookshop on the day, buying the limited-edition bag, and sharing their visit with #BookshopDay. The campaign also encourages people to start their Christmas book shopping early and locally.
