In its 40th anniversary year, the Arthur C. Clarke Award for the best science fiction novel first published in the UK was announced on 12 August 2026. The judges received a record 132 submissions from 52 UK imprints and independent authors.

The winner was When There Are Wolves Again by E.J. Swift, published by Arcadia, a near-future novel of rewilding, climate change and possible recovery set in Britain. Swift had previously been shortlisted in 2023. The shortlist also included Matt Dinniman, Laila Lalami, Silvia Park, qntm and Lorraine Wilson.

Swift received £2,026 and an engraved bookend. The judges came from the British Science Fiction Association, the Science Fiction Foundation and Sci-Fi-London, with Andrew M. Butler as non-voting chair.
